I am now 100% qualified to handle your pets!
Today was our final day of training. Our Unleashed training!
It pretty much consisted of being fed lots of miscellaneous, and not so miscellaneous, information about the store, its policies, and its products.
As an employee, it is our responsibility to provide Total Lifetime Care for your pet and you! This is Petsmart, where pets are family! We look forward to greeting you, our customers. We get to know your pets, determine your needs, help you make a decision on a healthy solution, and thank you for your business! We business expectations are high; we will be delightful to every customer, operate excellently, and offer a growing multitude of pet services. We give 100% and no less. Anything less could mean life or death for a pet. We value your business, but more importantly we value the health and happiness of you and your pet.
These services include: grooming, veterinary care, adoption, boarding, and training. All five services which are located right here in the store!
- You know that to become a groomer you have be certified to bathe pets, and then groom 100 dogs over a period of three months, and then send a portfolio to our corporate office to be approved?
- Our own in-store pet hospital, Banfield, provides everything you need. Spaying, neutering, vaccinations!
- Ready to adopt a new family member? Check out our dogs Saturday morning. Cats, we donate space inside our store to local no-kill shelters. The money you spend towards adopting your pet does not go to Petsmart, but the place from which you adopt a pet. Feel better about not only providing a home, but resources for other pets in need.
- And, as you may now, I work in the Petsmart PetsHotel, where we provide boarding, exercise, food, treats, attention, doggie playtime -- anything you could imagine for your special pet. Going out of town for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Please, bring them to us, and feel safe knowing that their in the hands of caring professionals. Lactose free ice cream, Snack Kongs, constant supervision, playtime, walks.
- Maybe little Fido is having accidents around the house or chewing on your shoes. Find some free time and sign up for training. Spend time with your pet, working together to better the relationship and behavior. If Fido doesn't improve by the end of a 6-8 week session we'll keep working with you. We won't give up.
We have an excellently trained staff waiting to assist everyone. This is what TLC is, providing for and helping every pet, every parent, every time!
Our facilities offer so much. I am so happy to be working at Petsmart. It really feels like I'm doing something great, with great people. People who love pets and animals as much as I do! It doesn't feel like it's just some shabby part-time work-because-I-have-to job. It's more than that. And I'm beginning to realize what a great opportunity this is going to be.
Some fun stuff I learned today, hmmm.
- Meat-based dog food is better for dogs. It has omegas that corn-based kibble doesn't have, and this works from the inside out to increase the healthiness of your pet's coat. Since corn goes in (and comes right back out) the dog eliminates more rather than being able to absorb the nutrients from the food.
- Birds have no sense of self. Mirrors are not such a great idea, because the bird bonds with its reflection.
- Petsmart makes no money from the adoptions. The money goes straight to the shelter where the animals are from.
- Cats don't like variety. They like security, knowing what to expect. Don't try out different brands. Stick with one.
- Dogs are omnivores, cats are carnivorous.
- Chinchillas' only way of maintaining their body temperature is by their coats. They cannot live in homes hotter than an average 80 degrees.
- Petsmart takes returns from anywhere! Petco, Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores -- if you're not pleased, come back to us and we'll give you your money back. I thought that was really cool.
